NCAA recruitin and graduation rates

st johns and uk are in the final four? **** i missed something somewhere

and cmon man, you know how basketball graduation rates are.
how could you possibly try to enforce something like that, 40 percent and under arent allowed in teh final four?

at elite schools, players leave after one or two seasons, why punish the school for that?
is it their fault their players are good enough to go to the NBA?

and unlike football, losing one or two kids to the nba every year early kills graduation rates.

even duke, who has a really high rate, does not have that many kids who leave early, as opposed to a unc, big east schools, etc...

I'm not advocating what this guys suggestions are...just some on here questioned whether college basketball was dirty (yourself included) and this sheds a little light on that from someone other than myself

of course grad rates can be skewed, I don't think NBA early enrollees (those that actually get drafted) should count toward a team's grad rate...unless they have below a 2.5 when they leave

force these kids to stay in class and not use the basketball season as a pro warm-up....there's only a handful of players who are already ready for the pros when they step on campus...John Wall is one...but others, not so much

but they talk about Huggins at Cincinnati...

who did he have leave early to skew those rates???
Kenyon Martin, DerMarr Johnson, Kenny Satterfield....then....who...?

his rates were horrid

I like Bruce Pearl, I like he runs a clean program and plays the right way...but his rates aren't the best and players like Tyler Smith, Duke Crews et al, really screw up his numbers, so he can't really help that

really speaks to how Duke has run their program...not a fan, but he wins games with kids who go to class...like Bobby Knight

Kentucky doesnt actually require players to be in the state.
Most live in Akron, Ohio with Lebron and commute down to Lexington on gameday.

UK requires that all players must not be able to read. Its a true story, so their mind can be focused on basketball.

if they let young people play college ball because they could play ball-and not worry about if they have armed robbery charge or graduated high school- how much bigger would the talent pool be in the nba and ncaa??

honestly not too much bigger...if you can't pass high school there's a good chance you've been dealt a seriously awful hand, or you're a high-functioning retard...kids like that aren't going to function well in a team environment anyway

That would be easy to enforce...all they would have to do is:
1-set minimum academic standards regarding academic promotion. And that should be based on a set number of credits earned based on the number of SEMESTERS an athlete has been in college. By using that as the basis, if an athlete falls behind they would have to catch up their number of credits to even become eligible again.
2-Omit any athletes that SIGN with a pro team during the previous year.

Then at the end of each school year (with summer session being the beginning) review each school's players and and see that a set percentage meet those standards...if not, put them on probation excluding them from post season tournaments or bowls. IMO, 40% is a really low expectation.
